I only stitch on days that end in "y".

A Frantic Friday

This week has been the last week of school and the last week of Eagle ceremony planning so it's been so hectic that I've hardly gotten in any stitching.  I did manage to put the finishing touches on LK's Ride a Bike but haven't had a chance to get a pic yet.

Today we have a lot of last minute cleaning, errand running, laundry, baking, and cooking to do.  I hope I can stay awake when everyone starts arriving.  My parents from OH and DD (lives in CA) arrive this evening and our son (lives in GA) arrives tomorrow afternoon.

One thing that DIDN'T help was the school's failure to communicate  an important change about exempting finals so that the most of the highly motivated students have been penalized.  I've already met with the principal several times about the school's shoddy attendance records...with NO results.  In fact the excuses I've heard so far would never, rightfully so, be accepted from students.  So I've scheduled meetings next week with both the principal (meeting number 4 and 2 emails, one unanswered, since mid April) and one of the school board members.  A BIG question I have is how do they expect their students to fulfill their responsibilities when the school doesn't fulfill theirs?  GRRRRR!

Tomorrow will be especially crazy as my HS son and I will both be volunteering at the concession stand at graduation tomorrow night.

I'm thankful for all our servicemen and women through the years who've sacrificed so much for our freedoms and national security.

I hope everyone enjoys the Memorial Day weekend.

Final Countdown to the end of the school year

Like it matters!  lol!  Two of our kids are taking summer classes.

Monday I had jury duty.  I brought along my Kindle and finished The Girl Who Played with Fire while sitting there and downloaded The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. ( I love instant gratification!)  I came close but didn't get picked for the jury.

Thursday was another big day at our house because DS got his braces off.  (I read more sitting in the waiting room.  It was a good week for reading.)

There was another band concert last night.  This one called Band-o-Rama where every school band that "feeds" into our high school bands and our high school bands played fun music.  Some bands had costumed characters that went along with the theme of the music and cavorted around.  It's always a fun concert.

This am I spent 5 hours helping measure the kids for next year's badly needed new marching uniforms and loading coolers with pop and bottled water to prepare for the concession stand for next week's graduation.

We're also plodding along preparing for DS's Eagle ceremony.  Next week-end will be fun but very busy.  I'm sure it will fly by.

On the stitching front, I made a bit more progress on LHN's Family Sampler:

I also picked up another little wip, LK's Ride a Bike.  This one will be for my DD who enjoys long distance bicycling.  I hope to finish it as a little doorknob hanger.

I hope everyone has a great week!

All fixed now

I spent some frogging time and fixed my mistakes on the little sal piece from the previous post.  I really like how it turned out but not sure yet what how I'll "finish" it.

The sal is from this blog:

I can hear the saws from across the street. Last time I looked out the window, they'd already made a lot of progress removing the fallen tree.

Stitching in the month of Mayhem

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog.

I made a bit of progress on LHN's Family Sampler and also thought I finished a little sal piece...until I looked at the picture and realized I was a little "off" on part of it.  That sneaky frog!  It won't take long to fix and since I'll be here by myself tonight, I hope to fix it then.

We had a storm come through here last night and here's the surprise I found backing out of my driveway this am.  Luckily the tree fell at just the best possible place and no damage was done to the neighbor's house and nobody was hurt.

The month of May is always crazy with all of the end of the school year activities and this one is no different.  A friend of mine came up with the term Mayhem to describe it...and she's right.

Last night was the final band concert for DS.  This is Honor Band year for his band in which they have 3 chances to perform their concert pieces and then the directors choose the best performances for each piece and then submit the recordings for judging on the state level.  The "nailed it" last night as far as I was concerned.  I hope the judges agree.

They performed last Sat. in Austin for another competition.  (As many years as I've had kids in band, I can't keep all the competitions straight.)  T came home saying they won 28 medals and dropped one on the kitchen table.  I assumed it was a medal they gave all the kids for competing but thought it was a lot nicer thn past competitions medals were.  I found out yesterday that he won an individual percussion medal and that his name is somewhere on a state (TX) music site for winning it.  (I'll have to do some digging to find out exactly what it means.)  He played a pretty "cool" timpani part on one of their pieces.  (I call it when he goes crazy on the timpani.) and I suspect that's where the judges noticed him.

There are a few more tests and activities yet to come for him/us.

Our DS attending UT has a big paper to turn in today and he'll be coming home for bit until summer session starts.  (Both he and our HS DS will be taking college classes this summer.  They count as dual credit for our HS DS.)

Everyone have a great week!  Happy Mother's Day!

House almost "built"

Still working on LHN Family Sampler and I'm glad to say that the house is almost complete.  I'm getting a little tired of stitching with the blue.  As I may have mentioned, I changed the color of the house to resemble the house we built in MI.  The main blue is GAST Liberty and the dark blue on the door is GAST Freedom.

May "mayhem" has officially started with the end of the year activities at DS's school and band.  He's got lots of projects, papers, and tests coming up including his AP Chem next Monday.  The first marching band boot camp was Monday and went pretty well.  (2 more to go!)  His symphonic band is in the middle of Honor Band year with a concert last Tuesday and a trip today/tomorrow to Austin.  They have several activities planned in Austin and compete tomorrow afternoon.  I hope to figure out how to listen to their performance tomorrow online.  His brother, a UT student, will try to go listen to them tomorrow.  We're also busy planning for T's Eagle ceremony and our extra family that will be here for that.

So far today I've had a guy come over for a termite inspection.  We passed!  WOO HOO!  I did a bit of vacuuming and decluttering before he arrived and I've got 2 loads of laundry "going". DS also frantically texted me.  He'd printed off a 23 page Physics assignment due today and realized after he got to school that the first page didn't print very well.  Mom to the rescue!  (I'm hoping for that mom of the year designation.)    I printed and delivered it to him at school.  I have a long list of errands/chores but here I sit at the computer.  So I guess I should finish up here.

Everyone have a great week.
